Our past, present and future

Wherever I lay my rug, that's my home.

The beginning

Since launching in 2021, Rugsea has been driven by a simple goal: create beautiful, responsibly made rugs that uplift both home and community. We partner directly with skilled artisans who handcraft each piece using careful, tried-and-true weaving techniques. By working one-on-one with these makers, we guarantee fair wages, transparent sourcing, and consistent quality—nothing is outsourced to anonymous factories.

A CRAFT OF CAMARADERIE

We all have a natural desire to care for and improve our environment. We like to think we're assisting you in creating an environment that reflects who you are, where you've been, and what brings you joy.

How we see it

A vision of the future

Every Rugsea rug reflects intentional choices: from responsibly sourced fibres and low-impact dyes to attention-grabbing color and texture combinations that feel both timely and timeless. We don’t claim an ancient lineage; instead, we celebrate the modern expertise and dedication these artisans bring to every knot and weave.

Looking ahead, we’re committed to deepening our positive impact: expanding our partnerships into new communities, and continually refining our supply chain to lower waste. When you choose Rugsea, you’re not just choosing a well-made rug—you’re supporting transparent craftsmanship, sustainable practices, and a brand that has its head pointed forward.

Our craftsmanship techniques

Our methods of rug-making are categorized by their regional roots, as is the tradition in the history of the medium.

Hand tufted

Handtufted rugs are an excellent, lower cost alternative to handloomed pieces.

Hand loomed

Hand Loomed rugs are an excellent, lower cost alternative to handknotted pieces.

Handwoven

Hand-woven flatweave rugs are named for their flat surface, woven akin to baskets, making them reversible. Without traditional knots or pile, they offer versatility and elegance to any space.

Hand knotted

Due to their density, craftsmanship and use of premium wool handknotted rugs are the most durable of all.

Machine made

Machine-made rugs are produced on power looms in factory settings, using pre-selected fibres (often synthetics or blended yarns).

How we see it

A mission of good taste

We believe in good design in its most literal sense: it must be both functional and pleasing. Rugs are intended to be used as well as admired. Weaving began as a technique to make carpets and other fabrics that were too costly to purchase. Rugs were made to add warmth and comfort, and to facilitate gathering.

We see our collaborative collections as a mirror that reflects the people that design them, weaving a spirit of place and feeling into rugs that share their story.
